Let's make lace...

As custom dictates, we start a Knit-a-Long for a Hap this coming February. A Hap is usually a square or a triangular shawl (point or half-Hap) made in wool. The border is the most attractive part, filled with colours in a wavy pattern. The colourbands can be repeated, when short, or very long with alternating colour sets. It is a really easy way to learn some lace and play with colours.

No wonder it is a Shetland Classic. Very versatile and excellent for daily use.

I'm working on a new Hap design. Fresh colours and a bit of a twist. Probably finished just before we start in the first week of February.

Will you join us in the Fine Shetland Lace group on Facebook? You can choose one of my designs.

So, prepare your needles, and see you soon!

  • indigo blue and white Lund, made by MoniqueB

    Lund

This is a delicate lace Hap. Construction is still the same, but the border is very wide, with nice details in the white stripes.

The description also holds info for a square version.

  • Norra

This half Hap is so luxurious in size, it is my go to shawl during winter.
The colours are less bright than the Hamnavoe Hap, more soothing and comforting.

There are mittens coming in the same colour order.

  • Hamnavoe Hap (practise + full size)

This starts out as a practise or sample piece, but also holds information on how to make a full square.

Rectangles

There is a lot you can put into a rectangle to make it quite interesting to knit. With a more direct result, satisfaction is certainly a key component.
The centres can be very becoming with pretty little designs, there are plenty of variations!

Don't forget that rectangles can be very practical for daily use! Wear it all day!

Effective and beautiful!

  • Sunnborg

A wide and elegant shawl, with classic Shetland Lace patterns. Very fine knit and generously sized. Lots to enjoy with this one!

  • Flowerchild

I am a flowerchild, growing up in the 70's. I like flowers, they bring so much. I put as many in as I could.
    An eye catcher indeed.

    Equilibrium

What can I say, I love me a rectangle. The patterns come out so well, delicate, elegant.
Beware, the very wide edge is worth all the effort.

  • Blyde

oooooh, so delicate and fine. This is a true ring shawl. It takes all your attention, and when it's done, others want to see it too!

Triangles

A triangle is rewarding to knit, in so many ways. Personally, I have only designed one shawl that's knit bottom - up, the majority is worked top - down.
A true benefit of a triangle is that it is not set in shape. It can be a central point, but the centre can be way off to one side too!
Or insert a part in the centre, like a Faroese shawl, to add interest.
Colours work always very well with a triangle, the lace can really benefit from a small splash!

  • Winter Lake

    Last year's best seller.
I made 6 so far, as gifts or for sale. Such a gorgeous knit. I've updated the charts, so cast on and knit!

  • Singel

Singel, named after the street in Amsterdam where you can buy flowers / bulbs and walk along the canal. A favorite, good size and so wide, you can wrap it around comfortably.

  • Hjemme

Deens / Faroese for "home". The Faroese shawls have a centre panel with separate patterns. Usually in a fuller yarn, but here in fine Handspun. Also handdyed (Hilltopcloud).

Squares

  • The Second One

The Ones Collection is a set of shawls that consists of different shapes for each One.

This One is a square, easy to knit in a single colour or multiple for extra effect.

  • Shetland Stars Square

A shawl with a big story, you find it in the main menu page. Knit yourself this very special square and imagine being in Scotland, where Jamie found Claire...

  • Osborne House

This is a really big project. It needs to be knit in fine gossamer yarn and fine needles. And even then, it's a very large shawl. You can loose yourself in this one...
